Lake Summerset Youth Picnic
Saturday, July 19th
8 AM - 8 PM
Spiritually bond with Filipino and American Catholic youths of the Rockford area. We are inviting the St. Bridget’s youth group Emmaus to join us on this outing. There will be food, swimming, beach volleyball, boating, religious talks, and time to just hang out with new and old friends. More information will be added when the details are finalized.

Eggroll Dinner Fundraiser
Sunday, July 20th
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
St. Bridget Parish Center
Cost of each dinner is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 4-12. Dinner will include 2 eggrolls, fried rice, pancit, and a soft drink. Dinners are available to-go, so there’s no excuse not to stop by and buy this delicious and affordable dinner. All proceeds will be used to fund the GRFACC and the GRFACC youth activities.

Holy Hill Pilgrimage
Saturday, July 26th
8 AM - 5 PM
Cost of roundtrip bus ride to Holy Hill will be $15. There are 47 seats available and they will be first come, first serve (or more accurately, whoever pays first will get seats). The community will be shouldering some of the cost of the bus, as the price of renting the bus has risen with the rising cost of gas. Lunch is potluck and we will be doing the stations of the cross when we get there. For more information, please contact me @ nylasor@gmail.com


Another Filipino Priest assigned to Rockford-area Parish

As of June 2008, Fr. Burt Absalon has been assigned to St. Bridget’s Parish Church. He will start celebrating masses at St. Bridget next weekend (June 7 & 8). With the loss of Fr. Buds who unfortunately had to return to the Philippines, it’s a real blessing for the Community to have Fr. Burt come to St. Bridget’s.


Upcoming Activities

Flores de Mayo
Sunday, May 18th
3 PM, St. Bridget
There will be a procession around the parking lot. Children ages 3 through 9 will offer flower to Blessed Virgin Mary before mass. Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Ariel Valencia. Potluck Dinner will follow the mass, and there will be games for children and teens after dinner.

Community Picnic

Saturday, June 14th
11 AM - 5 PM, Alpine Park (Shelter #1)
Potluck picnic. There will be raffles and games for all ages. An anticipated (tagalog) sunday mass will be celebrated at 4 PM. Tagalog/English missalettes will be available for those who need it.

Youth Summer Picnic

Youth outing to congratulate graduates, rejuvenate new and/or staying around youths, and general hang out for youths home for the summer. Activities will be determined by current and possibly incoming new officers.

Holy Hill Pilgrimage
Saturday, July 26th
Leaving Rockford by 8 AM, Returning by 4 or 5 PM
We will be doing the stations of the cross followed by mass then there will be a potluck lunch. After lunch we have about an hour of free time to visit gift shop or look around. We will be leaving Holy Hill around 2 PM, so we can arrive in Rockford before 5 PM.

For all officers, parish coordinators, and committee chairs. The youth officers are also encouraged to attend. We will be discussing all upcoming activities.

Tagalog Mass & Induction of Leaders
Sunday, April 6th
3 PM @ St. Edward Parish Church (3004 11th Street, Rockford)
Celebrant: Fr. Perfecto Vasquez (other Filipino priests will be invited to concelebrate the mass)
Tagalog/English Misalettes will be available for those who need it during the mass. After the mass there will be a POTLUCK dinner in the St. Edward Community Center. Everyone is encouraged to be bring a dish or dessert to pass and a 2-liter bottle of soft drink.

Taize Prayer
Friday, April 18th
7:30 PM @ Newman Center located inside the NIU campus in DeKalb
We are encouraging all youth officers to attend this hour of prayer, worship, singing and meditation. I’ve already contacted the people at NIU and they are excited about us coming to the prayer. They’ve even asked one of us to read a scripture reading in Tagalog, if we wanted to. This will be the last service this school year, so if you’d like to attend, please let us know asap.

All masses will start at 6:30 PM, except for the first night. The first night’s mass at Holy Family will be at 7:00 PM. All churches are in Rockford, IL (unless otherwise noted).If you’d like to sponsor a night or have a mass intention read, please choose a night and contact me. I will put you in touch with the parish coordinator for that night.

If you have a child that would like to be an altar server for one of the nights, please contact one of the youth officers so they could put the child’s name on the schedule. The only requirement for altar servers is that they have already had their first communion.

Elections for new community officers will be held on December 23. Nominations will be collected from December 15 to December 20. The nominated candidates have until December 22 to accept or decline their nomination. All officers will serve a term of 2 years.

On the Final Night, we will be having a POTLUCK dinner after the mass. Please bring a dish and dessert to pass. After dinner, there will be short program and public dancing.

3rd Annual Dance Night

The GRFACC’s 3rd Annual Dance Night “Disco Fever” will be held on Saturday, November 17 at 6:30 PM in the St. Bridget School Gym.   Hor’dourves  and non-alcoholic drinks will be served.  The cost is $12/person.  Adults 18 and older only, no children please!!!

For tickets or more information, please contact El de Rosales, Jackie Singson, or Bobby/Belle Castaneda.

For those wishing to volunteer their time, the fund raising committee will need help setting up and cleaning up for this activity.  I’m asking any of the GRFACC youth if they can spare some time, we would really appreciate their help.  All we can offer those who help is maybe breakfast and/or lunch during the day of the setup.  If you are willing to help, please let me know before Saturday.

    • The GRFACC is inviting families and groups that have statues and/or images of the Blessed Virgin Mary to bring them to the church to get a special blessing
    • This will be Fr. Ronelo “Buds” Meude final mass for the Community, so we should show our support and invite all our friends and family to this mass.
    • Those wishing to participate in the Living Rosary should contact us prior to October 28.  Everyone is welcome to participate, the only requirement is that the person know how to pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be (no matter the language or dialect).

San Lorenzo Ruiz Novena and Feast Day Celebration

The novena masses:

When: Wednesday, September 19 thru Thursday, September 27

Where: Holy Family Chapel

Time: 6:30 PM

**If you’d like a mass intention read during any of these masses, please let me know in advance, so that I could give you an envelope. I do need mass intention envelops at least a day before you want your intention read, so that I will be able to type them up properly and give them to the celebrating priest prior to the mass.

Feast Day Celebration Mass:

When: Friday, September 28 (the actual Feast day of San Lorenzo Ruiz)

Where: Holy Family Church

Time: 6:00 PM

  • There will be a procession prior to the mass on this day, which is why we are starting at 6 PM instead of 6:30 PM. We will procession with the San Lorenzo Ruiz statue from the Holy Family Chapel around the parking lot to the Church.
  • After the mass, there will be a POTLUCK dinner in the basement of the Holy Family Church. Please bring a dish or dessert to pass and a 2-liter bottle of soda/pop/soft-drink.
